When these constellation and nebula-inspired paintings by Elise Mahan appeared on my Etsy Activity Feed, I knew I needed to share them with everyone I knew. Here are but a few (and some of my favorites) of her paintings.

beautiful disasters

A friend of mine recently asked if I knew of any interesting artists who work with alternative media to create organic sculptures (she teaches 3D Design at a local college). I gave her a few names, before I remembered Chicago-based artist Rachel Niffenegger who I found via Polaroid Cupcake in this post from last spring. Niffenegger's mixed media works are beautifully abstract. I love the way she crafts such materials as fabric, wood and string into these organic, almost pulsating sculptures.
