art of darkness

I recently discovered Portland-based artist Julia Gfrorer during one of my many Etsy surfing adventures. While her illustrations are a little macabre, I find myself intensely attracted to her work. Purchase prints of her work here.

in stitches

Using ceramic plates and cups, different fabrics, and thread, Seattle-based Vietnamese artist Diem Chau creates beautiful snapshots of figures and fleeting moments. Visit her blog for recent updates and her website to see her past works and which pieces are currently available for purchase.

close cut

I am so intrigued by Danish artist Peter Callesen. Cut from simple A4 paper, his pieces are incredibly detailed, and display levels of craftsmanship and patience I just can't wrap my mind around.

paper trail

These cut paper configurations by Seattle artist Katy Stone have me wishing I had her ability and ambition. Her pieces are so intricately beautiful and colorfully kaleidoscopic.

St. Mary's

After posting about paper artist Chad Merritt yesterday, I discovered the man behind monpetitfantome also collaborated with Tracy Uba as the dreampop group St. Mary's. Though I'm a little late to find them (the duo announced the end to their recording days this past july), they're dreaming and haunting melodies will stay in rotation for quite awhile. You can still listen to (and purchase) their complete discography on their bandcamp site.

what a card!

In a world dominated by greeting card chains pedaling cookie cutter cards with unoriginal messages and tired images, the work of Australian card-making duo Able & Game is absolutely welcomed. With unique illustrations all hand drawn and digitally colored by Anna Blandford (Gareth Meney, the other half of the artistic team, works tech) their quirky cards have comical messages and refreshingly kooky designs. To see more of their work (and purchase it too!) visit
their etsy.
