From little rabbits and chipmunks to a bear with Ursa Minor stitched in his side, each animal displays a thoughful level of detail, and is undoubtedly adorable. For almosy two decades Brazilian sculpteur Mozart Guerra has pushed the boundaries of textile art, using polyurethane as a base on which he uses colored string to establish and build up the surface. With a background in set design, he understands space and visual movement, and how his pieces relate in those principles. The completed works have a beautiful rhythmic quality that is almost dizzying. Here, I collected some of my favorites from his extensive portfolio.

fly away on wings of fabric

These birds by London-based textile artist/illustrator Abigail Brown are incredibly adorable. At first glance they seem so simple, but after a few minutes of closer inspection, you begin to see the many layers of fabric - some old, some new, with frayed edges and tiny stitching binding the bodies together. Each piece exudes a certain kind of beautifull, messy craftsmanship that reflects the love and attention Brown shows her projects. Though the prices are a little steep, I feel they accurately match all the time and energy that goes in to each piece.
